Alice gave us 9 pups in the wee hours of the morning – 5 males, 4 females. All are black with varying amounts of white. Quite a number of them are mostly black. I knew this was a possibility given Sawyer’s black and tan genetics. No one seems to have any tan on them although one has a curious little spot on the back of his neck that is a dark brown, definitely a different color than black. Alice did well. She preferred I was IN the whelping box petting her during this unfamiliar process but after the first few pups were born (pretty much in my lap) she settled in to her mothering duties and was more willing to let me watch from the sidelines. I’ll work on photos and IDs later today.
Ivy, who oozes maternal instinct is extremely interested in Alice’s brood. She seems to think they need her. Uh, honey? I think you’ve got enough to take care of.
