Puppy Buyer Questionnaire

The purpose of this questionnaire is to help me determine what you are looking for in a pup and ensure you get the right kind of dog for your situation. There are no “right” or “wrong” answers. The more detail you can provide, the better. Feel free to include any additional information you feel may be helpful.

What led you to the ES breed and/or Good Shepherd Farm?
Have you owned an ES before? What about other breeds of dogs?
What are your plans for this pup? (companion, farm work, competitive events etc…)
If a farm dog, what duties would the pup be expected to perform? (herding, pest eradication, guardian duties)
On a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being low, 10 being high) what level of drive/energy are you looking for in a dog?
How much social interaction would a pup experience with you? (public events, frequent visitors, busy neighborhood vs quiet country life)
Do you work outside the home? How much time would the pup spend by himself and where would he be kept?
Where would the pup spend the majority of his time? (house, outside-yard, pen etc…) Where would he sleep?
Think about the tone of your home. Is it active/noisy? Calm/quiet? (you want a pup that can adapt and fit into your living style)
Do you have a preference as to sex or color? How set are you in those preferences?
Do you plan to spay/neuter this pup or do you have plans to breed?
How experienced a dog trainer are you? Would you be attending classes with your pup?
Describe your personal approach to training a dog (purely positive, correction based, a combination) and why you feel your approach is the best.
Are there children in the home (or frequent child visitors)? If so, what ages?
What do others in the home think about getting an ES pup?
Do you currently have other dogs, pets or livestock? Describe briefly.
Have you ever given up a dog? What were the circumstances?
Describe a typical day for your pup
